Very few fairs are oriented towards innovation and development in the tourism industry which can successfully affect environmental protection and increase the direct profit through environmental protection. SOTD Global Tourism Industry Fair is the world's first initiative to combine environmental protection and the business model representing the sustainable future development within this industry. The fair will be held at the same time as the Plastic Ocean Summit making the fair an official part of the program.
The SOTD Fair's target group contains the entire tourism industry: tour operators, hotels chains, airline companies, travel agencies, leisure cruise companies and many more. The fair's objective is to prepare the tourism industry sector for developing new sustainable strategies crucial for keeping up with the global environmental changes that are constantly setting new global challenges, such as the ocean pollution and protection of the world's natural resources that are crucial for our existence and survival on this planet. Global tourism industry - with a global economic contribution of USD 7.6 trillion and the fact that 1 out of 10 jobs is supported by tourism industry across the world (9,9 % of global employment) - plays an important and essential role in the necessary global environment changes. SOTD Fair will elaborate and present all the possible angles and business models within this industry that can be taken or implemented by OACM to affect and improve the specific environmental issue, ocean plastic pollution and the reduction of 70% of plastic that is currently laying beneath the surface. The other major role is raising awareness among already well informed global public to minimize future pollution risks by changing people's habits.
